Bass Lake Meeting Club met this week. As is traditional with the group, no agenda or focus-topic was planned, allowing discussion to “evolve naturally.”

One club member, Lars Whiteman, suggested Bass Lake should re-introduce a town crier, to spread news as it happens, on a frequent basis.

Davey Tanning, 39, the youngest member of the club, objected.

“Isn’t that why we have social media?” Tanning asked.

Fellow member Millie Darnling, 66, upped the ante.

“Isn’t that why we have newspapers?” Darnling asked. “Isn’t that why we have the Beacon?”

Tanning scoffed.

“You call that a newspaper?” Tanning scoffed.

No decisions were finalized.

The discussion was followed by a friendly game of poker, in which Darnling upped the ante again, prior to adjournment of the meeting.
