A late-night backyard barbecue party prompted a call from neighbors early Monday morning. The call came in at 2:52 am and the night-shift officer was dispatched on his bicycle to investigate. When the officer arrived at the home in the six block of Bluejay Way, he noticed a strong odor of charcoal briquettes. Following his nose, the officer discovered the homeowner and his roommate cooking ribs and burgers on a charcoal briquette grill, described as egg in shape. When questioned by the officer the homeowner claimed he did not realize cooking ribs after midnight was a crime. The officer responded that cooking ribs after midnight is not a crime and proceeded to join the homeowner and his roommate for a slab and side of coleslaw. Upon finishing his meal, the officer returned to the driveway to discover that his bicycle had been stolen. The officer walked back to headquarters and filed a missing patrol-bicycle report, then took a nap. The officer was later cited for unauthorized barbecue sauce stains on his uniform. He is currently on unfed administrative leave.
