Bass Lake opened the 2014 football season Friday with a 54-0 loss to Corner County.
It marks the fourth straight season the Canoes have lost to the Monsters by that very score.
“That must be some kind of cosmic thing, or something,” head coach Zeb Dreppelin said immediately following the game, when told of the bizarre statistic. “What are the odds?”
The score was tied 0-0 to begin the game. Seven touchdowns, six PATs and three safeties later, it was over.
“It was competitive early , but things got worse from there,” tweeted the parent of one player, who did not see action.
Dreppelin chalked up the loss to “early-season jitters.”
“The kids are gaining confidence,” he said. “And everyone else should, too.”
The Canoes play their home opener next week vs. Central Central High.
