Michiana Highway Control is investigating the alleged larceny of hay bales from Camp Americana (formerly Camp Chief Whoopie-Doo-Doo) in rural Bass Lake.

The incident, where a reported 50 to 60 hay bales were stolen, happened either last Friday or the following Monday, or somewhere in-between, police said.

The bales are described as green, rectangular in shape and weighing between 45 and 50 pounds.

An eyewitness told authorities he or she saw a suspicious vehicle towing a rack full of “an unknown substance” leaving the scene at a low rate of speed.

The hay is valued at “a lot less than it ought to be,” according to a local farming expert.
