Calvin “Butch” McGraw, of rural Nearbytown, was the winner in the Beacon’s Last Rain of the Year Contest. According to trained weather watcher Claude E. Dey, the last rain of 2014 came Saturday December 27.

McGraw, who correctly predicted the date of this year’s last rain way back in October, wins a Bass Lake Beacon coffee mug. Congratulations “Butch.”
