Bass Lake High ended a six-game losing streak Friday with a 47-46 squeaker over the Dri-County Prohibitionists.
Trailing by four in the final 45 seconds, Canoes coach Tim Timmerman called timeout and dialed up a groovy in-bounds play for a quick bucket by oft-unappreciated reserve guard Ace McQueen.
After a defensive stop, star senior Vin Diagram punctuated the rally with an off-balance, ill-advised 3-pointer as time expired, to secure a close-shaved, much-needed victory.

As the buzzer sounded, parents applauded ecstatically as Bass Lake students poured onto the court. At least 19 of them used various social media to connect with friends who were stuck at home studying, to co-celebrate.
Several students later joined Dri-County youth for a party at an undisclosed location. None of the BLHS student-athletes attended the alleged get-together, according to the team’s ball boy, whose older sister is part-time police liaison with the school district.
Diagram led the Canoes (4-8 overall, 1-5 Moon-Shine Conference) in all relevant statistical categories.
Earlier in the evening, the Bass Lake girls’ team played well, too.
