A silent-auction fundraiser exploded into chaos this week when participants began bidding audibly.
Local auctioneer Fred Callahan, who is deaf, was unfazed by the situation, but proceedings were nonetheless canceled, along with a pancake-supper follow-up party.
The event was held to raise money for Kristy Johnson’s offspring, ages 7 and 10, so they can attend summer camp. The family will now proceed with Plan B: Placing donation jars near the cash register at various Bass Lake merchants.
