Local cover band Local Cover Band will launch its “Late Winter/Early Spring 2014 Tour” Feb. 1 at Funky’s On The Bayou.
Anticipated song list includes hits by Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, White Lion, King Crimson, Black Sabbath, Simply Red, Sawyer Brown, Pink Floyd and Green Day, plus a bonus original song written by the band’s newest member, 18-year-old rhythm guitarist and Silverchair fanatic Skippy Jenson.
Special Guest will open.
Music starts at 9 p.m. Cover charge is un-established, but will be non-negotiable, per Funky’s owner Greg “Funky” Gregory.
Other tour dates include a few shows at other dives around the area.
Local Cover Band is Bass Lake’s most-enduring rock ‘n’ roll unit, launched in 1973 during a weekend of boredom and weed-induced dreams of supplanting The Who in terms of world-domination. All founding members are either dead, don’t live around here anymore or are descendants/friends of the original lineup.
This reminds me of one of my favorite bands from the 70s, Free Beer. Their gigs were well attended until folks realized there wasn’t any free beer.
