Charlotte (Amatrius) Garfield
Pushing-90, Bass Lake

Charlotte (Amatrius) Garfield, nearly 90, perished Friday, after a lengthy battle with life.
She was born Aug. 6, 1926, to Simon and Augustine Amatrius, in southern Michiana. (They had immigrated to the U.S. from an undisclosed foreign country, back in the 1800s, if you wondered).
Charlotte moved to the Bass Lake area in 1949, to be closer to people other than those with whom she was closely acquainted.
In September 1951, she married Robert Garfield. This marriage eventually ended in death.
Ms. Garfield thoroughly enjoyed volunteering, although “I don’t do it as often as I should,” she often said. She enjoyed bird-watching, college softball and the history of cereal marketing.
Charlotte is survived by two sisters, both quite a bit younger than she; two sons and their families; a daughter and her families; and a few grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an older brother who is no longer older than she was at the time of his death.
Visitation is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. Monday at Jolly’s Morgue and Donuts. Time is pending, according to Jolly himself.
Services will follow the next day at St. Methodist Catholic Church. Burial will follow the day after that at the newly-opened The Cemetery, outside of town.
Memorial donations are encouraged.
